Victory Day in South Africa On 9 May, the parish of St Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg, RSA, the only Russian parish in subequatorial Africa, commemorated Victory Day to celebrate the 65th year since the end of the Second World War.
Holy Pascha in South AfricaThe Paschal Liturgy was celebrated at the church of St Sergius of Radonezh, the only Russian Orthodox Church in Africa south of the Sahara. About 200 people took part in the midnight Paschal procession. The congregation consisted of not only Russian speakers, but also Afrikaans and English-speaking parishioners.
First week of great LentDuring the first week of Great Lent, services were held daily at the church of St Sergius of Radonezh. In the evenings, the service of Great Compline with the reading of the Great Canon of St Andrew of Crete was held.

Arrival of the new Rector of St. Sergius ChurchOn the 24th of January 2010, after the Divine liturgy, a special prayer was done in the Russian Orthodox Church of St Sergius of Radonezh in Johannesburg dedicated to the beginning of the new academic year, which starts at the beginning of January in South Africa and not in September as in Russia. At the end of the service, the congregation was introduced to their new Rector, Father Daniel Lugovoy, whose appointment was decided by the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church on the 10th of October 2009.
